RoboSats
RoboSats is an open-source peer-to-peer bitcoin exchange that coordinates trades over the Lightning Network and is designed to be used through Tor. Traders create short-lived “robot” identities rather than persistent KYC accounts; Lightning hold invoices are used as bonds and escrow so that trades can complete quickly relative to on-chain confirmation times.[1][2]
Design
Project materials emphasise:
- Tor-only access for the exchange interface
- One-time robot avatars instead of lasting user profiles
- Lightning hold invoices as bonds and escrows for speed and assurance
- KYC-free matching of bitcoin for national-currency payment methods arranged between peers
- Fully open-source code
Documentation and the learn site describe how makers and takers post offers, lock bonds, and settle fiat rails out of band while bitcoin moves on Lightning under the escrow rules of the coordinator federation model documented by the project.[1][3]
Use
Users typically open the site in Tor Browser, generate a robot, and browse buy/sell offers denominated in local payment methods. Privacy and safety properties depend on correct Tor use, bond behaviour, and the payment method chosen; the project publishes guides and a GitHub repository for review.[1][2]
