KeepKey is a hardware cryptocurrency wallet first released in 2014. Company materials name founders Darin Stanchfield and Ken Hodler and tie the project’s origin to the aftermath of the Mt. Gox failure.[1]
ShapeShift acquisition
On 16 August 2017 cryptocurrency exchange ShapeShift acquired KeepKey on undisclosed terms. ShapeShift said it would keep the KeepKey brand and that KeepKey staff would continue on the hardware line. KeepKey had previously integrated ShapeShift’s exchange API, and after the acquisition the device was marketed with on-device ShapeShift swaps.[2]
Later status
The KeepKey About page describes a later period in which the brand is maintained by a small contributor team and states that the wallet is not owned by a corporation, with community input on the roadmap.[1]
