CleverCoin was a Dutch bitcoin exchange that quoted bitcoin against the euro. Traders funded accounts via SEPA, iDEAL and related methods and placed market or limit orders. Historical fee copy stated 0.3% on both buys and sells, free bitcoin deposits after three confirmations, a 0.0001 BTC bitcoin withdrawal network fee, and EUR 0.70 for SEPA euro withdrawals. A trading API was documented on the operator site. It launched on 11 September 2014; CoinDesk later described founding in early 2014 with expansion beyond the Netherlands that year.[1][2]
Acquisition by Kraken
On 28 June 2016 CoinDesk reported that Kraken was acquiring CleverCoin — Kraken's second acquisition of 2016 after Coinsetter — and that CleverCoin's services and customer base would be integrated into Kraken on 29 June 2016. Deal terms were undisclosed. CleverCoin CEO Karsten Nilsen told CoinDesk that he and co-founder Christian de Kok would not join Kraken and would move on to another enterprise IT business.[2]
CoinDesk also noted prior CleverCoin payment-processor disruption in April 2016 and quoted Nilsen linking loss of a major payment provider to talks that produced the Kraken deal.[2]
