CAVirtEx (Canadian Virtual Exchange) was a Canadian bitcoin exchange that quoted bitcoin against the Canadian dollar. While operating, deposit methods described on Withdrawals included Canada Post Xpresspost bank draft, Payza (formerly AlertPay) in CAD, and direct deposit. The exchange opened on 2 July 2011 after weeks of beta.[1] Interac e-Transfer (EMT) deposit and withdrawal support was dropped in August 2011.[2]
Acquisition
Coinsetter acquired CAVirtEx before Coinsetter itself was bought by Kraken. On 19 January 2016 Kraken announced that it was acquiring Coinsetter and Cavirtex and that client accounts of both exchanges would transfer to Kraken on 26 January 2016.[3][4] CoinDesk's Coinsetter acquisition piece also states that Coinsetter had acquired CAVirtEx in April of the prior year, months after CAVirtEx had closed citing security concerns — that timing and reason are reported there as secondary context.[4]
