Blockstream
Blockstream is a blockchain technology company focused on Bitcoin and digital-asset infrastructure.[1] It was founded in 2014 by a group of Bitcoin developers and cryptographers including Adam Back (inventor of Hashcash), Gregory Maxwell, Pieter Wuille, Austin Hill, and others. Adam Back serves as CEO.
History
Blockstream was founded in 2014. On 24 August 2021 Blockstream announced that it had raised US$210 million as part of a Series B financing on a valuation of US$3.2 billion, led by Baillie Gifford and iFinex (operator of Bitfinex).[2]
Products
Blockstream Satellite
On 15 August 2017 Blockstream announced Blockstream Satellite, a service broadcasting Bitcoin blockchain data from communication satellites for users without reliable terrestrial internet.[3]
Liquid Network
The Liquid blockchain went live on 27 September 2018. On 10 October 2018 Blockstream announced the public launch of the Liquid Network as a federated Bitcoin sidechain for faster settlements, confidential transactions, and issued assets. The launch PR named 23 Liquid members at that date.[4]
Blockstream Jade
On 3 January 2021 Blockstream unveiled Blockstream Jade, an open-source hardware wallet for Bitcoin and Liquid assets, intended for use with Blockstream Green.[5]
