Bitmain (Bitmain Technologies) is a Chinese designer and seller of application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) cryptocurrency mining hardware, best known for the Antminer product line. The company was founded in 2013 and remains a major supplier of SHA-256 bitcoin miners and hosting-related products.[1] The historical domain bitmaintech.com is obsolete for current commerce; use bitmain.com as the primary public site.
History
Bitmain was founded in 2013 by Jihan Wu and Micree Zhan (Zhan Ketuan) and grew rapidly during the mid-2010s ASIC boom by shipping Antminer units to retail and industrial customers. The company sells successive Antminer generations and container / immersion products; SKUs, hashrates and prices change frequently, so current specifications belong on the company store rather than frozen on this wiki.[1] Bitmain has also been associated with mining-pool businesses historically linked to the group (including AntPool). Corporate boundaries between pool brands and the hardware company have changed over time.
Hong Kong IPO attempt (2018–2019)
In September 2018 Bitmain filed for an initial public offering on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The application lapsed around 26 March 2019 after the six-month window expired without a listing. Contemporary CoinDesk and Caixin reporting described the filing as expired or shelved amid a crypto market downturn and leadership changes, with the company saying it might restart listing work later.[2][3]
Leadership
After the IPO lapse, press coverage in 2019–2021 documented co-founder role changes and a prolonged power struggle between Wu and Zhan, including later spin-outs. Details of internal governance remain contested in secondary sources; this page records only that leadership was unstable around the failed listing period.[2]
