NiceHash is a hashrate marketplace that allows users to buy and sell computing power for cryptocurrency mining. Founded in 2014 by Marko Kobal and Matjaž Škorjanc, the platform enables miners, gamers, and other users to sell their computing power, while buyers can purchase hashrate and direct it to compatible mining pools.

Unlike a traditional mining pool, NiceHash primarily operates as a marketplace for mining capacity. Sellers receive payments in bitcoin, even when their hardware is used to mine other cryptocurrencies.

Hashrate marketplace

Sellers connect their mining hardware to the platform, making their hashrate available to buyers. Buyers can place orders for specific mining algorithms and direct the purchased hashrate to a compatible mining pool.

The marketplace supports different mining algorithms and types of hardware, including ASICs and GPUs.

History

NiceHash was founded in Slovenia in 2014 by Marko Kobal and Matjaž Škorjanc.

On 6 December 2017, the platform suffered a security breach that resulted in the theft of approximately 4,700 BTC.[1] NiceHash subsequently introduced a reimbursement programme for affected users, which was completed in December 2020.[2]
