Hashrate marketplace

Hashrate marketplace is a platform that allows users to buy and sell computing power used for mining cryptocurrencies based on proof of work. This model enables mining hardware owners to sell their hashrate, while buyers can participate in mining without owning or operating their own equipment.

Unlike a mining pool, which combines the computing power of multiple miners to share mining rewards, a hashrate marketplace acts as an intermediary for trading mining capacity.[1]

How it works

Sellers connect their mining equipment to the platform, making their hashrate available for purchase. Buyers place orders specifying the mining algorithm, the amount of hashrate required, and the price they are willing to pay.

The purchased hashrate is directed to a mining pool selected by the buyer, who receives any mining rewards according to the pool's payout rules.

Sellers are compensated for the computing power they provide, regardless of whether the buyer's selected pool finds any blocks.[2]

Uses

Hashrate marketplaces allow hardware owners to earn income by selling their mining capacity without having to manage the selection of the most profitable cryptocurrencies to mine.

For buyers, they provide access to additional computing power without the costs of purchasing and maintaining mining equipment.

Hashrate marketplaces can also be used to access mining capacity for newly supported cryptocurrencies, without requiring buyers to own dedicated mining hardware.[3]

Risks

Purchasing hashrate does not guarantee profitability. Results depend on factors such as hashrate prices, network difficulty, mining rewards, and fees charged by the marketplace and mining pool.

The availability of large amounts of rentable hashrate may also pose security risks to cryptocurrency networks with relatively low total hashrate, including the possibility of 51% attacks.[4]
