Blocktrail was a Dutch bitcoin startup that offered a block explorer, a developer API, and a multi-signature HD wallet (web and mobile). It was founded in 2014 by Boaz Bechar, Ruben de Vries, and Jop Hartog. On July 19, 2016, Bitmain acquired Blocktrail and later rebranded consumer-facing products under BTC.com.
History
Blocktrail launched a blockchain explorer and data products, then added a multi-signature HD wallet and REST API with SDKs for languages such as PHP, Python, and Node.js. Explorer features included address tags, time-based balance views, and related analytics.
On July 19, 2016, Bitmain announced acquisition of Blocktrail B.V. Bitmain planned to merge Blocktrail's explorer, wallet API, and team into BTC.com, while stating existing Blocktrail services would continue during the transition.[1] After the acquisition, Blocktrail branding was replaced by BTC.com for consumer-facing explorer and wallet products.
Years later, BTC.com announced that its wallet service would stop in early April 2022, advising users to move funds. BTC.com stated that other businesses such as data and mining-pool services would continue.[2]
