BitNZ was a New Zealand bitcoin exchange for NZD/BTC trading. It was announced on 12 September 2011.[1] It offered NZD cash deposits into a BitNZ Westpac account using receipt particulars, NZD withdrawals to New Zealand bank accounts, bitcoin deposits to a per-account address, a 0.5% trade commission, free NZD rails for New Zealand banks, and a 0.0005 BTC withdrawal fee.[2]
Closure
On 14 February 2017 the operator announced BitNZ was closing because New Zealand banks refused accounts for bitcoin trading, making continued operations impossible. Customers were told to withdraw all funds before 15 April 2017. The operator pointed New Zealand users to sister service Instabit as an alternative. A New Zealand Bitcoin subreddit notice thanked users after more than 11,000 bank transactions since 2011.[3]
