Uphold is a platform for holding and trading digital assets and related balances. The public site dates that business to 2014.

The homepage on 18 September 2026 describes buying and selling cryptocurrency, and it says the firm has published a view of assets and liabilities on the site since it began talking about transparency in 2014. It also says customer assets are not loaned out.[1]

The same footer names Uphold HQ Inc., NMLS ID 1269875, with a registered office at 90 New Montgomery Street, Suite 412, San Francisco, California. It also names Uphold Operating Canada Ltd. in Vancouver.

Europe pause

An Uphold Help Center article, last updated on 30 June 2026, says that customers of Uphold Digital Assets Europe had deposits and receives of both crypto and fiat paused from 1 July 2026. The article says the pause is while a MiCAR application is unfinished, and that discussions with the European regulator would not be done by that date. MiCAR is described there as the EU markets in crypto-assets regime, in full effect on 1 July 2026.[2]

The article is explicit that the pause applies to customers using an Uphold Digital Assets Europe account. It says it does not affect other Uphold customers. It is a temporary service change, not a shutdown of Uphold as a whole. The article says those customers can still hold assets in custody and can still withdraw, and that the firm hopes the pause will be short. It does not give a restart date.

Canada

The homepage states that Uphold Operating Canada Ltd. has withdrawn its application for registration in certain Canadian jurisdictions and is no longer offering registrable services to Canadian residents, until it re-files and obtains registration.[1]
