Slush Pool
Slush Pool (earlier Bitcoin.cz Mining / Bitcoin Pooled Mining) was the first publicly known bitcoin mining pool. In September 2022 the operators renamed it Braiins Pool to unify mining products under the Braiins brand. Pool operations continued after the rename. The historical coinbase signature was "/slush/".
History
The pool was announced on 27 November 2010 on BitcoinTalk as a cooperative mining server.[1] Early share accounting used an artificially low difficulty method that was later understood to be vulnerable to hopping. The pool moved to a score-based scheme so older shares in a round were worth less than newer ones. Balances accrued on the server and paid out when a user threshold was reached. A fixed fee around 2% was published in pool terms in the late 2010s.
The pool's coinbase signature was historically "/slush/". It was widely cited as the oldest continuously operating public pool brand before the Braiins rename.
Rebrand to Braiins Pool
On 21 July 2022 Braiins published that Slush Pool would be renamed Braiins Pool in September 2022. Co-founders Jan Čapek and Pavel Moravec stated the goal was to unite mining tools under one brand. They wrote that mining operations would not change, that miners need not take action, and that Slush Pool stratum URLs would continue to work while Braiins URLs were added.[2]
