Poloniex
Poloniex is a cryptocurrency exchange. It is not accurately described as a simple US-based retail exchange in its post-2019 form.
Ownership history
Circle acquired Poloniex in 2018. In October 2019, Circle announced that Poloniex would spin out of Circle to Polo Digital Assets Ltd., with US customers exited from the Circle-operated service as part of that transition.[1][2] Later press discussed investor-group participation, including reporting that Tron founder Justin Sun confirmed an investment role; Circle’s own spin-out posts do not name him.[3]
Regulatory notices
On 25 March 2026, the Financial Services Authority of Seychelles warned that www.poloniex.com, allegedly operated by Polo Digital Assets Ltd (previously an IBC), has no authorisation under the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2024, and that the company was struck off and dissolved on 1 January 2022.[4]
