Bitrefill is a cryptocurrency commerce company that sells gift cards, mobile phone refills, and related digital products payable in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, including over the Lightning Network.
History
Bitrefill was founded in 2015 by Sergej Kotliar with co-founders Michael Grünberger and Michel Gustavsson. On 15 June 2019 Bitrefill announced a $2 million late seed round led by Coin Ninja, with participation from Charlie Lee, Fulgur Ventures, Bnktothefuture, and others, to grow Lightning Network products and expand internationally.[1]
In that announcement Bitrefill stated that users could purchase gift cards or mobile refills from more than 1,650 businesses in 170 countries, payable with Bitcoin, Lightning, and other cryptocurrencies.[1] The company also described Lightning payment acceptance as a core focus from 2017 and mentioned Thor / Thor Turbo Lightning channel products and a ThorAPI for partners.[1]

As of September 2026, the Bitrefill homepage presents gift cards, eSIMs, phone refills, and payment cards, with checkout in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Site figures include 8,000+ products and availability in 180+ countries, plus a running counter of gift cards sold using crypto.[2]
