Bitfinex
Bitfinex is a cryptocurrency trading platform founded in 2012 and operated in the iFinex group. It offers spot and related trading services for digital assets. U.S. persons are prohibited from holding accounts under Bitfinex’s terms of service.[1]

In February 2021 the New York Attorney General announced a settlement requiring Bitfinex and Tether-related entities to end trading activity with New Yorkers, pay penalties, and meet reporting conditions following an investigation into misleading statements about Tether reserves and related fund movements.[2] The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission has also published enforcement action involving Bitfinex and Tether (CFTC Press Release 8450-21).[3]
Bitfinex has published El Salvador Comisión Nacional de Activos Digitales (CNAD) Digital Asset Service Provider licensing for related entities, including Bitfinex Securities (2023), Bitfinex Derivatives (January 2025), and a DASP licence for the core spot platform announced 12 May 2026.[1]
