BitBay was a Central and Eastern European cryptocurrency exchange that launched publicly on 29 March 2014, initially focused on bitcoin markets against PLN, EUR and USD.[1] The BitBay brand was later retired through successive rebrands to Zonda (2021) and Zondacrypto (2023). The Estonian operating company behind the later Zondacrypto brand, BB Trade Estonia OÜ, was declared bankrupt by Harju County Court on 27 August 2026.[2]
History
BitBay was operated by BitBay Sp. z o. o. in Poland at launch.[1] On 12 December 2014 the exchange announced a “2.0” platform version. Early coverage described fiat rails including Polish bank wires and postal deposits alongside crypto deposits after network confirmations.
In November 2021 the exchange rebranded from BitBay to Zonda, moving to a new domain and leadership under CEO Przemysław Kral.[3] On 22 May 2023 Zonda announced a further rename to zondacrypto / Zondacrypto.[4]
According to Estonian counsel reporting on the proceedings, BB Trade Estonia OÜ (registry code 14814864), which operated Zondacrypto, was declared bankrupt by Harju County Court on 27 August 2026 (civil matter No. 2-26-14436). Creditor claim deadlines and trustee contacts have been published by counsel; the Estonian e-Business Register records the company as in bankruptcy.[2] The Estonian Financial Intelligence Unit had revoked the company's virtual currency service provider licence on 29 June 2026 for failure to comply with a supervisory precept, prior to the bankruptcy declaration.[2]
