Anycoin Direct (also known as Bitplaats) was a Dutch cryptocurrency brokerage active from 2013. On 12 November 2024, Finst announced it had joined forces with Anycoin Direct and acquired strategic assets, and invited customers to migrate to Finst.[1]
History
Chamber-of-commerce and contemporary coverage place Bitplaats B.V. registration in April 2013 (founders including Bram C. L. Ceelen and others). The brand later traded as Anycoin Direct under Phoenix Payments B.V. as it expanded beyond the Netherlands.
In 2014 it added Bancontact for Belgium and SEPA for the European Economic Area. Local rails such as Giropay, MyBank, Sofort, and Trustpay followed in 2014–2015. A January 2015 private funding round of €500,000 was reported.[2] A Canada push with Interac ended in late December 2016. In March 2018 the broker said it had enabled SegWit for bitcoin withdrawals.[3]
Finst's acquisition post describes Anycoin as active since 2013, with crypto-service registrations in the Netherlands and Austria and a BaFin trading and custody licence in Germany.[1]
Products
Anycoin Direct operated as a brokerage for buying and selling crypto with European payment methods. Payment methods included iDEAL, Bancontact, SEPA, Giropay, Sofort, and MyBank.
Acquisition by Finst and wind-down
Finst's 12 November 2024 announcement states that Finst acquired strategic assets from Anycoin Direct, that eligible Anycoin customers could migrate to Finst without extra ID checks and without migration fees, and that the free transfer service and the then-current Anycoin Direct platform would remain available "until further notice" to allow a smooth migration.[1]
Finst's own wording left the platform available until further notice. Finst later announced an AFM MiCA authorisation on 24 July 2025 and states company number 41000015 on its site.[4]
