On April 12th, 2012, a project to develop an open source Bitcoin mining ASIC, using a topology based on a direct copy of an FPGA design, was announced under the name OpenBitASIC.[1]
OnApril 14th, 2013, the project was declared as having been canceled, citing a lack of a suitable chip manufacturer.[2]
