About Omni Nano

Omni Nano is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, public benefit organization devoted to nanotechnology & STEM youth education, with the goal of better preparing today's students for success in the competitive, high-tech economy of the 21st century. Our mission is to develop and produce high-quality, low-cost, student-centered nanotechnology curricula and educational materials suitable for high school and undergraduate college students, in order to promote college and career readiness in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

Omni Nano is in the process of developing innovative and interactive nanotechnology curricula and educational materials - including textbook, group projects and assignments, quizzes and exams, and online interactive learning tools - with a focus on relating theory with real world applications. Unlike existing resources, our curricula and materials are geared toward secondary and early post-secondary students who take courses either in a traditional classroom setting or online through distance learning, and are aligned with common STEM standards, including the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

What is Nanotechnology?

Nanotechnology (or "nanotech") is a highly interdisciplinary, rapidly growing STEM discipline, embracing concepts from chemistry, physics, biology, engineering, applied mathematics, and computer science. Nanotech is slated to find novel solutions to long-standing, real-world problems in a wide variety of fields, such as medicine, energy production and storage, environmental conservation, communication, computation, and defense.

Nanotechnology is anticipated to be the basis of the "21st century industrial revolution" and to be extensively utilized in the next generation of consumer products ranging from batteries and computer chips to cosmetics. Revenues from such products and related services are expected to reach ~$3 trillion by 2015; the nanotech industry is expected to generate 5% of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2018; and nanotech-based product manufacturing will employ an estimated 6 million workers by 2020. Between scientists, engineers, and administrative support staff, the booming nanotech industry will affect millions of jobs, both directly and indirectly.
