There is NO reason why this needs to be limited to 8 keys. I understand that the exponentiation causes overflow if you generate all 8 pieces from [0,2^256), but there is no need to do that. There is nothing wrong with generating the pieces in reverse order and just limiting the higher ones to progressively decreasing maxima.
