Trusted Third Parties are security holes. this lesson needs to be learnt and relearnt constantly. Banks, custodians, exchanges and any institution that you trust to hold your keys for you can fail and lose your Bitcoin in the process. This has happened many times. Here is a list of some of the most famous exchanges to fail, be hacked, etc.
