The GLBSE (pronounced glib-zee) is a form of exchange that provides services to users to sell assets, bitcoin bonds listed with the exchange.

The service provides the following featuers:

* Issue assets to raise bitcoin capital

==Adding Funds==

Funds for the purchase of shares comes from the user's BTC account on GLBSE.

Bitcoins sent to the user's Bitcoin address for deposit must confirm before they will show as being available. The threshold for the number of confirmations that GLBSE requires is the standard 8 confirmations on the blockchain.

==Withdrawing Funds==

Proceeds from sales of assets add to the user's BTC account on GLBSE. Bitcoins can be withdrawn at any time. Some withdrawals, particularly larger ones, may be delayed if the BTC in the service's hot wallet is insufficient and funds from cold storage must be first made available.

==Fees==

The [https://glbse.com/portfolio/fees list of fees] can be viewed once logged in.

* Sell fee rate, paid by seller: 0.5%
* Buy fee rate, paid by seller: 0.5%

Trade fees are MAKER/TAKER, that is if you place an order, and it goes on the orderbook, then you pay 0% fee, if the order gets matched with another order then you pay the trade fee(buy OR sell fee, not both).

In short; buying and selling assets will cost bitcoiners on average 0.25% of the amount involved for each asset-transaction they do.

The service comes from the first bitcoin company BitcoinGlobal. The site entered testing phase under an internal code name before being opened with a round 3 of testing on April 27, 2011<ref>[http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=6500.msg94943#msg94943 Stock Exchange testing, round 3]</ref> and launch soon after.

I see recently that the name for entry on the main page for Exchanges (:Category:Exchanges) has been changed to "Exchanges and Stock Exchanges". The category Exchanges doesn't specifically state "currency exchanges" so there isn't the need to add to the name each type of exchagne that appears. A new entry should appear in Bitcoin. The network hasn't yet confirmed it, but you know it's being processed. After about one hour it should get 6 confirmations. You are able to spend the coins when there is only one confirmation.

The confirmation counter (like the block counter) will increase by one roughly every 10 minutes. Six confirmations are considered as 100% sure a transfer has been processed.

* You can create as many new addresses as you like. Using a different address each time helps keep you [[Anonymity|anonymous]].

The [[block chain]] is a neverending story of every transaction throughout the network from day 1 (genesis). The first time you run Bitcoin, it is downloaded and verified on your computer. Every new transaction is added to the end of this chain and verified by the network to be valid.

=== Addresses ===
Whenever you send a coin, you are actually sending a cryptographically signed message, associating your coin with the recipient's address. This effectively transfers ownership to to the recipient. Once they own the coin, they are free to transfer it to another person.

A wallet is a collection of addresses. You can create as many new addresses as you wish; having more addresses makes you more anonymous, because then people cannot see how much BTC you received. Your wallet contains the secret keys used for spending that money, and must be [[Securing your wallet|backed-up regularly]]. If you lose the wallet then you no longer possess the money.

New coins are minted through generating hashes. These generators are rewarded with a small fee for the computationally intensive task of incorporating your transactions into the block-chain. This fee halves each time 210000 blocks are added to the block chain, or approximately every 4 years. The fee will keep halving until it effectively reaches zero, at which point 21 million coins will be in circulation.
